This article analyzes three contradictions that obtain from the relationship between indigenous peoples and goldmining in the middle Caquetá river region in Colombia, against the historical background of this country’s armed conflict. The first contradiction operates on a global-national scale, linked to an export-oriented, agricultural-mining economic model. The second concerns a regional-local scale: illegal gold mining in Amazonia, where the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC ) played a key role. The third contradiction arises from indigenous people’s participation as workforce in mining.
